We are taking memberships and sharing ideas and stories. We encourage you to pledge to become a member today and you can assist us with sending your ideas to this most exciting media co-operative. Thank you!

We have five membership categories: Youth Storyteller/Reporter, Media, Newspapers in Education, In the Field and Scholastic. They are defined as:

  • Youth Storyteller/Reporter  - ALWAYS FREE – for those who are 25 years old or younger who wish to submit a story and become part of the Youth OUTLOUD! network.
  • Media – those members whose core business is operating a media outlet.
  • Newspapers in Education (NIE)those members who work with NIE programs.
  • In the Field – those members whose core business is a non-profit, an NGO or a youth-serving entity.
  • Scholastic – schools only.

Youth Storyteller/Reporter memberships are always FREE.

Media memberships are initially free, but will later be charged $500 annually plus a $50 processing fee per year. This gives you the rights to 10 stories from the co-op during the year. Each story thereafter is $75. GRANTS ARE OFFERED TO MEMBERS WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY.

Newspapers in Education (NIE) membershipsare initially free, but will later be charged $500 annually plus a $50 processing fee per year. This gives you the rights to 10 stories from the co-op during the year. Each story thereafter is $75. GRANTS ARE OFFERED TO MEMBERS WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY.

In the Field membershipsare initially free, but will later be charged $500 annually plus a $50 processing fee per year. This gives you the rights to 10 stories from the co-op during the year. Each story thereafter is $75. GRANTS ARE OFFERED TO MEMBERS WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY.

Scholastic membershipsare initially free, but will later be charged $250 annually plus a $50 processing fee per year. This gives you the rights to 5 stories from the co-op during the year. Each story thereafter is $75. GRANTS ARE OFFERED TO MEMBERS WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY.


Feature Stories

Feature stories are typically 500 words or more and express youth views on political, social, news and issue-oriented topics. Feature are print-ready and can include photographs.

Snapshots

Youth have views on all topics! The Youth OUTLOUD! asks youth about a wide variety of issues and they send us their thoughts, which are compiled into a larger, global story.

Postcards

These stories are typically 500 words or less and express youth views on lighter topics such as school-life, hobbies, family and other issues of interest to teens.
